It could just be my mill that is the problem. Of course the other advantage of the reversing switch is that I didn't have to wire it up to rotate in the correct direction. Put the forward and reverse labels on the switch after you're done.

Also, not all motors are reversible, but mine and I think the one pictured are.

Got all the parts together and have mocked-up the final assembly. The motor is wired and running in the correct direction. This thing is gonna work great. Thanks everyone for the help and pix will follow as I permenently mount everything on the cart.

I inititally had somethign fubar but I figured it out.

I missed this post back when you first wrote it, but someone has built a gas powered mill. This is one my club uses from time to time for our big brews. It was built in 1920.

That's an ugly bunch of guys. Maybe that's why there aren't any female brewers in our club.

Sorry about my cross-post here, but I have used a 30 lb-in torque motor with a start capactior like the one discussed here, and I can't keep it from jamming no matter how I control the grain flow. My gap is set at .039 inches on a two roller crankandstein. Any ideas about how to keep this thing rolling?

If you feed the mill small amounts of grain does it jam? Maybe you just need to get it started?

Maybe the crankandstein needs more torque than the barleycrusher?

Yeah, I knew that was coming, but I didn't want to think about it. It hurts my brain to do so. I got an EE degree a long time ago, but rarely do anything this practical. Looking at the diagrams above, I think you want the switch to reverse the red and blue wires between the capacitor and the motor. So for my switch with six connectors, red and blue (black in my case) from the capacitor went into the center. I then connected one side of the switch to the motor wires matching, the other side opposite. If your motor is like mine (PSC), you should turn off the power before switching the direction.

I'm trying to wire mine up in the next few days. I like the DPDT wiring but I cannot wrap my head around this post. BC... Another diagram?

Forget DPDT. If you look at the diagram and think about the problem, to achieve reversal you're only moving one wire. SPDT is fine. The wire that needs to be "rerouted" connects to the center terminal of the switch. The two routing possibilities (the terminals of the capacitor) connect to the other two terminals of the switch.

If you bought a DPDT switch (6 lugs), pick either the left side or the right side and use those three lugs only.

Would a fresh clean diagram help?
