I know someone had pics of using a 15.5gal keg for a fermenter. Could you post those again with instructions for getting the spear out please? I think I just can't get the retainer ring out of there.

Thanks

Of course there is a special tool for this but...

Rotate the retaing ring until the upper end is near one of the two notches. jimmy a very small screwdriver behind the ring, and gently pry it up and out of the groove. Slowly rotate the screw driver around and remove the retaining ring. Rotate the spear until the notches match the grooves and remove.

Lufah dont forget the stoppers I am using 10.5 stopper and it sinks all the way into the opening. I havent tried a #11 but think they might be a better fit with easier removal. HTH

Did you guys try the "universal" stoppers? I use them now almost exclusevely, no more bungs in the carboy :)

They would be useful if they were big enough to use on kegs. If they can fit a 6.5 gallon carboy they are not large enough to use on an unaltered sanke keg.

I've got a stupid question (but hey, whats new?) But would an orange or yellow carboy cap fit onto a sanke keg?

Thats a good question Chooch, one that I will not be able to answer due to the fact that I dont have any carboy caps. They just might work though.
