JZ's wort chiller setup question

I currently have a 25' 3/8" chiller with 3/8" gaps (hard copper wired) between the coils. Will a wort return set-up even work with gaps between the chiller coils?

Cheers

I don't see why not, unless I'm misunderstanding the question.

The purpose of recirculating your wort is to keep it moving so that more of the hot wort comes into contact with the chiller.

I don't see why having gaps would be a problem, it probably would help if anything.

Your setup will be fine. The only reason that mine doesn't have any (big) gaps, is because I used 50' of 1/2", and I wanted all the coils in the wort - including 5G batches. You can see my build at :

I did just "enhance" it's design. I pounded a 1/2" rigid copper pipe flat, and bent it into a ring, that I soldered to the bottom. This makes a better seal with the bottom of the kettle, and serves to hold back most of the hops (obviously some still manage to get through).
