Chris Frey posted on tech talk a while back that he pours his yeast slurry into unopened ziplock bags. I emailed Ziplock and they said the insides are not sterile but are sanitary.Anyone ever do this? i dumped some WLP 002 slurry into a bag on Sunday and I'm hoping for the best.

Well, that probably is good enough. Most of use just sanitize our equipment--we don't sterilize it. Oh, and I don't recommend trying to sterilize the bags in an autoclave.

I use those bags all the time for covering my flask on the stir plate when making starters or over the top of carboys when I don't have an airlock handy. They are sanitary already, so I just dip the bag in some star san before using them around wort to kill any remaining bugs. If I don't have any star san in a bucket, I just spray some into the bag.

Just recently I was at a homebrewing class at Brewmiester in Folsom and afterwards I was handed a baggie of Brett. I thought it was a little strange but aparently for short term storage there just fine.

I use a mason jar or a used tomato sauce jar. That way I can sterilize it and I don't have to worry about it getting punctured or falling open.
