Choice of upgrade

Fri Dec 26, 2008 8:04 pm

So the wife has given me the go ahead on getting some new brewing equipment and I don't want to take too much advantage of that so I have a couple options.

#1- Keg kit with picnic pour and bottle
#2- Burner and kettle for full boil

If I get the keg system I'll be doing 1/2 batches until I get the keg system. If I get the burner and kettle I'll need to keep bottling (bottling bucket has been infected before and since replaced)

the way I look at it is I can purge the air in the keg and go with the 1/2 batches for a while- get the burner and kettle later. That keeps me in a full boil state until I can step to a real batch size. I have the time and the climate is good for brewing right now so I don't want to put it off for too long. Any feedback is great.

I agree with that except the yeast starter equipment you should already be doing. Even if you are just making starters in a growler you are making huge strides in producing better beer. My LHBS has gallon jugs for 4 bucks. I have seen some stuff at Walmart in the craft section that will work too.
