Because showing my wife didn't get much reaction, I thought I would share my work with the Army. This is my new setup using heating elements for my Kettle and HLT. I concentrated on safety (DUH!) using plastic boxes and everything sealed up with gaskets. Just tested it this afternoon, need to get an exhaust fan as my basement became 90% humid. Got a GFI breaker on the way to add to my load center. This was a proof of concept. Need to add some control panels with switches and lights etc and more safety items. Brought cold well water up to temperature pretty quickly. Can't wait to brew with it. Once I get everything completed I will put a list together. I did just purchase a Payne controller to control the BK. This was the easiest way I could find to dial in control without building it.

Electric Brewing Setup

That's a sweet setup. Funny the wife didn't have much of a reaction. Maybe she'll have a better reaction to the homebrew. Let us know how it works. I like the voltage controller. That is a good price.

Here are a couple more pictures. Got the Payne (18TB-2-25) controller and wired it up. This is more of a proof of concept before I commit to building the rest of the control panel. Need to find a box to hold all that stuff which has been difficult. Tested this out and it works pretty sweet. I seem to go over kill and used the 10 awg wire which is a bitch to work with. But it all came together and very well grounded and connected to a 30A DPST Switch then to a 30A GFI breaker.

Sometimes I think I like homebrewing because I get to build stuff!

That is a sweet set up. I have a brutus clone, but I have been thinking about building an electric set up to replace it. Just so I don't have to deal with the gas exhaust.
