Guys - Has anyone looked into this temperature control system by Embedded Control Concepts? Looks pretty cool and is priced under $200. http://www.embeddedcontrolconcepts.com/index.html

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to ask. We've updated the UI a little to get rid of the gray background, as well as many other useful features that have been suggested during our beta testing.

As previously posted, the BCS-460 does require external relays. That being said, SSRs are cheap, and can be found readily on eBay for ~$5.00 each.

What is MSRP on the PLC and HMI package?

Pricing is on the website. The BCS-460 attaches to your home network and hosts webpages, so the HMI is your computer. You can also connect it directly to your computer via Ethernet cable, or run standalone, so no network is required.

I was once interested in something like this and in fact had considered co-developing a similar product with a homebrew supply retailer. The problem was, short of a PID functionality, my Ranco controllers were doing and still do everything I needed as far as controlling the brew-day process.

I could see using a more programmable temperature controller for my fermentors since I always do a ramp-up in temperature during the last 20% of the ferment and I'm not always around or as diligent as I should be to set the Ranco to a new temperature.
At the same time, each ferment seems to be a little different than the next so even with multiple date-time set-points, I'd still be changing it to match where the beer actually was in the process. Damn yeast. :)

I'd love to see something like this developed, especially in an "open source" format. I just wouldn't want to be the guy that needs to sell and support 200 units to break even.

The bcs is now for sale, and I have been using it for a couple of months, very cool stuff, lots of posts on northernbrewer, brewboard, and homebrewtalk as well as his site as well.

be careful though, it will have you dreaming up all sorts of fun ways to modify your brewery.

Cheers.

I've got one. It's a cool widget. I hooked it up to my temp probes and took some readings, but don't have it completely wired in yet. I've still got to get some SSRs too.

eccsynd, I see lots of SSRs on ebay. Which ones do I want to control 120V water heater elements?
