I think my pump arrived broken. Any tips?

I just got a march pump from b3 and I'm wondering if it isn't broken. I had a few issues getting it primed but followed pointers from this forum and seem to have sorted that out. But the fan at the bottom of the pump doesn't seem to be functional. Also, when I have the pump running (testing with oxyclean solution) water just pours out maybe 3/4" from the 'out' side before dropping off. So not enough force to recirculate. So does the fan not always run? Did I not solve my priming issues? Or is my pump broken?

If you didn't solve your priming issues - then the pump would be real noisy and sound like it's making popcorn. The fan on the back should be firmly attached to the pump shaft. It spins at full speed all the time (even when you slow the flow down to a trickle). Sounds broke to me. Send it back.

I just removed the wet-end assembly and I'm down to a motor within a case and the part that spins. I can manually turn the fan. When I plug it in it just makes an annoying buzz/hum. It might turn a tiny bit but not much really. Yeah I think I'll get in touch with morebeer. In the meantime, has anyone got any tips if I can salvage this myself. First I bought the wrong pump from ebay, then I buy this one from b3 and just my luck, it's defective. Help?

Well, since you are "going in"... there is probably a setscrew on the fan. You need to remove it, put in a drop of loctite, and then crank that bitch down. The motor without the wet-end shouldn't make any loud noise and the fan should spin at full speed. Fully assembled - it makes a horrible screech when it is run dry (not recommended). It still sounds like you have impeller issues. But if you can rule out the motor issues first - that will help.

OK I'll try to figure out how to open the casing without destroying it. I think I understand what you mean about locking down the fan but when I plug it in, nothing moves. Just a buzz/hum. Now just to clarify, the impeller is the star shaped plastic piece within the wet-end assembly? Or it's the part that spins the star shaped plastic piece? Because the part that would turn the star-shaped plastic seems to be connected to the fan, when I turn that part the fan moves too. I'll keep trying stuff. If I can find the cable for my camera I could post a video and show what I mean.

dude, it's broke... don't fuck with it in case it voids the warranty.
call B3 and tell them what is happening, I bet they will send you a new one stat.
