And here I was thinking I was the only guy that wrapped a towel around the fermenter to keep light out. The only difference is I use a binder clip.

I've had some issues clogging a 3/8 inch SS tube with blowout in the primary. I like to look at the beer, but I don't go to glass unless I rack it. In another post of mine someone recommended 1.25" blowout tube to prevent clogging, and I'm gonna go with that when I get a chance to pick up some 1.25" SS bulkheads.

The funny thing is that I almost always use a blowoff tube. I was working on getting the temperature stabilized in my fermenting fridge. Figured I'd move all 11 gallons to it the next day and change to a blowoff. Guess I was just a little late.

The other carboy was fine. You can see it just blew out the stopper and airlock as it should have. But I really must have jammed that stopper into the broken one.

I occasionally wrap a hand towel around the neck to absorb foamy Kraeusen as it oozes out of the airlock past the vodka. The towels were not quite enough to absorb 6 gallons of beer and trub though.

What looks like carpet is actually a towel covering the hardwood flooring in our hall closet. It took me, my wife and daughter over 2 hours to get it cleaned up.

Lesson learned. WLP005 repitched from a 400mL slurry is some powerful shit!

We don't get hickory shad that big around here (or eagles that small, whichever applies). :D

I think that's a carp not a shad.

That's definitely a carp and the bird is an osprey.

So it is! Big suckers, ain't they. Here's another one.

We have eagles, two or three types of hawks, and some really big woodpeckers around here, but no osprey.
