Aerate wort using Portable Co2 Charger

Thu Aug 27, 2009 1:22 am

Hi! I like to use pure oxigen to aerate my wort, but dosn't have the space for an big tank of oxigen. I was thinking of using a Cornelius Keg Portable Co2 Charger to do the job. Only trubblel is that it might not be practical because I have to use a crazy amont of Co2 cartridges? Is there somone out there that know how much oxigen that is needet in gram to leve lets say 10 ppm of oxigen in the wort with use of lets say an airstone? I coud then figure out how long I need to relese Co2 from the charger to get to that amount sinse the cartridges holds 16 grams of Co2.

oxygen tanks are really small. you want oxygen fuel cylinders, used for welding. should be able to get em at a hardware store for less than $10, and get the valve and airstone kit from morebeer for like $30

It's not me who thinks the Co2 tank and the other brewing equipment are too big. Go figure who that can be?

CO2 charger???????? You don't want carbon dioxide (CO2), you want oxygen (O2) to aerate your wort. You can't get O2 cartridges for that charger so you need to find some other way to do it.

I feel grate about your marriage to your boyfriend BeerPal, don't worry about what I think:)

Yes, you are right of course, Co2 is not the same thing as O2. I'm tryng to learn brewing, and I'm learing. I am worried thou about geting the right amount of o2 in my wort. Is there a consensius among brewers that pure o2 is the best way to go. Palmer (2006) don't give a answer to this question.
