Extending a Refrigerator?

Fri Oct 19, 2007 7:02 am

Has anyone extended a refrigerator by removing its door and building a rigid insulation box that buts up to the open refrigerator so the refrigerator would cool the entire contraption?

I recall having seen plans or a discussion of that a while back, but haven't had luck finding any details on it.

I have read about this and seen it not only in a home brew level but I have seen restaurants that are trying to go cheap on extending a walk-in.

Let me give you some advice, if you do this (and it does work) you need to remember that this puts allot of stress on the compressor in the refrigerator.
I seen a restaurant added only 3 more feet to a walk-in and it killed the refrigeration unit in two weeks. If you do extend it, raise the temp!

Check out this thread. I started gathering parts for it a while ago but never started the project.
