Howdy all. I'm working on a simple 3 tier system with one pump.
Does this (see diagram) layout make sense? This is my first foray into system building. Thanks for any input/advice you can offer!

bottom of mash to top of mash – pump
mash to kettle – pump
hot liquor to mash - gravity
immersion chiller whirlpool – pump

I'm going to assume you plan to use March pumps which are non-priming. The problem you will have is going from mash to mash or mash to boil if the pump is above the mash tun.

You will probably want to switch your boil kettle and mash tun, and ensure that the input to the pump is below the level of the mash tun output.

I thought the same thing too. Now that I think about it, it was probably just to simplify the drawing. He can put his pump down at the bottom below the mash and accomplish everything with longer lines.

If you have a little more space, I would just get yourself another pump and go with a one tier system. Just say NO to ladders and steps!

well, actually i don't know anything about pumps, so i put it in the middle on the drawing because it seemed as good a place as any, but wondering if it would work that way so i'm glad you addressed that.

i wanted the mash on bottom to avoid a ladder, but wanted the 3 tier as opposed to one to save some space. was thinking i could put a q.d on the h.l. tank as well as a side tube off to the side, so that i could just plug a hose in ad fill to the desired level. does that sound like a good idea, or should i just go 1 tier?
