Who on here has welded their gas bar for a Brutus style system? I am trying to do mine and it seems that no matter how hot or how much gas I use I end up with leaks!! I made the first one with collars and ended up putting so much heat down that it warped it to shit. I am trying to do one now with Tees and it is giving me hell. Any help would be awesome!

Sorry. I'm no help. I just buy sculptures and let others worry about welding shit. I'm useless.

The only advice I can affer is that is exactly why I did not have a gad bar on mine. I plumbed it in with 1/2" and mounted that to the frame.

I didn't even want to try to fight with sealing up the bar. Besides it makes your setup more permanent. I wanted the ability to make changes whenever I wanted... though I haven't made any changes, yet.

I had no trouble welding it tight. I welded a few overlapping beads. Testing revealed a few leaks, so I ground the welds flush and welded over the top of those. No worries, works great and I would definitely do it again.

What kind of steel are you using? If it's warping, you're definitely doing something wrong or using very thin steel. What are you using to weld? Did you properly clean the metal before welding it? I spent more time degreasing and wire-brushing the steel than I did actually welding....

1 1/4" square tubing 1/8" thick. Everything was clean. Using a Mig. The Tig at work is set up for stainless so I couldnt use it. Bout to give up and hard pipe it.

Strange. I used .120 as well and a Lincoln 120v MIG welder with no problems. I will say that if you're warping metal that thick, you have waaayyy to much heat. I am not an welding expert by any means, but that seems too much.

Yea, I was using a brand new Millermatic 252. I set it to what it said to on the quick refference card for that thickness. After welding some, much thinner, stuff for a friend it occoured to me that I should have done it with that setting first then if needed gone over with the hotter setting. Live and learn.
