Updated java - now it won't let me chat!

I was prompted to update java, now it won't allow me to open the chat.

"your security settings have blocked a local application from running"

Been trying to get in for almost an hour, can anybody help me? I'm not a computer guy...

gotta change your java settings. the best way is to add exceptions for sigmachat and for thebrewingnetwork. another way that'll work is to lower security on java in general. i don't recommend that way, though.

all in my exceptions list but still not able to join chat...

I didn't do sigmachat.com, but did the other two as well as the one that pops up when I got the error and I'm in.

OK I added the exception for
http://www.
client1.addonchat.com

and chat window opened.

Just had to read the whole error message and there it was...

I just struggled with this for a little while. The settings you need to update are not in Safari. You need to open up the Java settings in the System Settings, and add "http://www.thebrewingnetwork.com" to your exception site list. Apparently the Safari one is ignored. FWIW, I also added "http://client1.addonchat.com", too. I didn't test which one actually made it work, and I'm too lazy to test it. Suck it.

Here are step-by-step instructions, courtesy of listener Andy W:

If Using Windows
Start menu (lower left corner)
Search for "Java"
Select Configure Java
Selec the "security" tab
Click "Edit Site List"
Add 2 Exceptions:

http://client1.addonchat.com
