Agreed - fun show.

Also, great to hear Colin talking up Biofine Clear. That stuff is awesome. Used it for the first time a few weeks ago and was very pleased with the results. I'm now seriously considering ditching the plate filter. The Biofine works fast, SOOO much easier and none of that gross shit found in isinglass and gelatin touching the beer.

FYI, it's available to homebrewers via Midwest Homebrew Supply:

Yes, another great session with Colin. I'll never miss an opportunity to listen to the Mad Scientist.

On the topic of Biofine Clear, what sort of dosing do you do for a 5 gallon batch? I've just ordered some and plan to use it this weekend.

Cheers :drink

I think the bottle says to use 1/4 - 2 Tbsp per 5 gallon batch. I used about the middle of that range, based on this from brewer at Chama River Brewing Co:

Gelatin is a terrible fining agent (it strips out much more than just yeast and protein-tannin complexes) and only works well at cold temperatures, much like isinglass.

Biofine clear is magic. I could have an IPA out of the fermenter in 12 days and have it on tap, looking filtered (yes, it actually was as bright as any filtered beer) on the 14th day with ~ 50mls/bbl. of biofine clear dosed in line.

If I we’re doing this at home, I would toss about 10 mls into a corny with the last 1" cut off of the dip tube and fill the corny with beer. As it fills, ever so lightly swirl the keg intermittently (hopefully this is closed and under pressure) and let it sit. It will work far faster at 32-40 F, but it will work at room temp. Give it about 1 week and you should have a clear beer.

So, I went with 10 ml, or about 2/3 Tbsp.

Colin also talked about an article in about different hop esters beeing formed if you add then during the late stages of fermentation.

Does anyone have access to that paper/article?

I am very interested in that...

I don't usually use a secondary so how would I use biofine? Would I just add it during the keg fill?

It would be great to get some specific information about how to use this as a home brewer. I would love to try it before I invest in a filter.

Lastly, would this work well enough for a pilsner?

Thanks all and great show!!!
