Metropolitan makes a fantastic helles, alt, vienna lager, doppelbock, and kolsch. They are my favorite local brewery. That is just the tip of the iceberg out here. Excellent beer is popping up everywhere...finally. :jnj

Great show! Metro makes some super beer! It seems like the Daley machine has loosened it's laws on new liqour licenses in favor of drinkers revenue.. Half Acre is making some great beers too. Can't wait to visit Pete Crowleys Haymarket Pub and Brewery. Things are starting to happen in Chi-town!

Damn right things are happening in Chi! The beer scene was hoping there in the fall when I was studying at Siebel. Can't wait to get back.

One thing surprised me. Today, my group at work had a get together at Redhook. We took the tour and the guide gave out one question which stumped me.

Q: Which breweries has Redhook merged with recently:

a) Widmer from OR
b) Kona from HI
c) Goose Island from IL
d) a & b
e) a & c
f) a, b & c

Answer: f: a, b and c.

By Redhook do you mean Anheuser Busch? I think that's the case. At least in a partial interest in Goose Island. Goose now has access to A-B's distribution.

This came up during the tour, too. There is a lot of confusion about this. AB does not own Redhook. AB has a minority stake (they said it's near 37% -- big, yes, majority, no).
By contract, AB has no say over the beer, but RH has access to AB's distribution network.

fact is....Goose Island and Half Acre use AB as a distribution channel....that is all. as far as I know anyway.
