Sunday Session - Beer Wars the movie distribution

Well, I'm 3/4 of the way through the documentary and a couple of things really stood out for me (besides the BIG THREE and the douches they are). First was the hot blond with green eyes talking about not knowing about beer distribution ... not so disturbing. Second was the video with Sam from Dog Fish Head at his home checking on his fermenting beer in a carboy that was sitting on the kitchen counter, by a window, in full sunlight! That just blew me a way ... I guess maybe I am a bit anal about it, but I block the windows in the garage so sunlight doesn't hit the carboys when I am transfering to a keg.

For those that haven't watched the show, take the time to watch it and force your american swill drinking buddies to watch it also. I am looking forward to finishing the documentary as soon as this work week of hell is over.

Yeah I just finished the movie on netflix and my jaw hit the floor when I saw that. I had to back it up to get another look at it. Sho nuff right on the fuckin counter in the sunlight. Sam is no dummy when it comes to beer, so I can only imagine he intentionally put it there. For what reason? Make a little Skunkbutt ale?

As much as the movie seemed like a pure "documentary," they probably shot that scene a couple times:

First, they tried to shoot Sam in the pitch-black checking his carboy, found there wasn't enough light to get a good quality image.

Second, they probably asked to do the same scene over again but in the light (near windows, in the kitchen) so there would be enough light for the camera sensor or filmstock (I assume it was a digital format, though). I imagine Sam ran his carboy back to the dark after they got the shot.

That's exactly what I thought.

Yeah ... I figured it was for video quality, but at the same time I'm surprised he was willing to chance the consequenses. Who knows, perhaps ... Sam was thinking ahead and mixed up some really strong iced tea for the scene ahead of time. If Justen ever gets Sam on the Session, I'll have to make sure that question gets asked.

Exactly what I was thinking/hoping. Knowing the wide range of ingredients he puts in beer it wouldn't surprise me none.

I talked to, Dogfish, possibly even Sam, not sure who maintains it, on Twitter via @dogfishbeer.

Me: "In the BW film, it appears the Calagione household had a carboy in direct sunlight, potentially horrible for beer?"
@dogfishbeer: "or potentially moved for the cameras ..."
