Hey BNer's,

I recieved my rhizomes from NikoBrew about a week ago (1x Sterling, 1x Centennial). They have not been planted for a week and I have yet to see any bines breaking throug the soil surface yet. For those of you experienced hop growers, how long does it take for a new rhizome to establish itself and start coming up through the soil? I'm not there yet, but at what point should I start worrying about them?

I've had them take up to a month. Usually they are a bit quicker, around 2 weeks.

mine took 3-4 weeks.

2yr old Mt Hood are 6'
2 yr old Willamette are 4'
2 yr old Cascade are 4'
1st year Centennial are 6"

There may be a frost tonight so we'll see what happens...

I've got nine plants ranging from 1 - 4 years old. Some of the older plants produced 20+ shoots this year so I mowed them all down and steamed them. They were great and the second round of shoots are already nearly 3' tall.

What does steaming them do? did you eat them?!

Yes, they are very much like asparagus.
