noob hop grower, now with picture! Look 8 - )

Sat Aug 08, 2009 12:29 am

:asshat: ers,

My hops exhibit 2 of the 3 traits that mean they may be ready to harvest. I have a whole bunch of cascade that look pretty ready to go; they are papery, they smush, but they dont smell of anything. Are they ready for harvest or should I wait a week or two yet to make the most out of my first hop crop? Any input would be appreciated much.

Your poll will receive much more attention if you include a "no pants" option in the poll.

I'm going with "not ready". I leave my hops on the vine until they just start to dry on their own.

Quote from Freshops.com - "The cone will develop a drier, papery feel and in some varieties a lighter color as it matures. Some browning of the lower bracts is a good sign of ripeness. Squeeze the cones as they develop and you will notice they become more light and resilient rather than green and hard."

Tonight I just harvested about 7.5 ounces of first year cascades that were just as Hoprunner described. Looking forward to tossing them into a brew tomorrow.

Okay I guess I must wait for the dankness to fall. By the way, screw Obama for rejecting reason and joining the anti-marijuana bandwagon. Phssst, I thought you were cool, why don't you go snort cocaine with G.W Bush!! Just another f-ing spineless politician.

Everyone deserves to get stoned at least once in there life, Obama sure smoked the dope
