Yeast cake and areation

I just put my wort on the burner to get the boil started. I plan on pitching onto the yeast cake from my last brew. I am about to rack that brew off to secondary.

Do you guys think I need to bother areating this wort if I am just pitching it onto a cake??

I was about to reply by saying absolutely. Now that I think about it, don't the yeasties only need o2 for reproduction? If you have all the cells you need do you really need to add o2? Maybe we can get the pope to chime in here. Nice post kace

I always do. Seems to help the yeasties get up and going again.

I was thinking the same thing. I was reading the popes page the other day and realized I am underpitching. This is a pacman cake and it looks like it really dried this brew out, just finished racking and waitng for the bubbles to subside a little so I can get a good reading.

Only 40 minutes left in my boil guys!!!

Still have to try and defrost the spigot outside so I can chill.
25f degree brewday yippee!

Depending on the gravity of this brew you may be overpitching by using the whole yeast cake. I've done it quite a few time tho and it always worked ok for me.

Hopefully this will be at about 1065, this is a rebrew I missed the gravity by 13 points last time.
I think I will just give it a good shake instead of busting out the O2 system. Or should I go all the way?

I would go O2. I don't have any good scientific reason for it tho  Just paranoid probably.
