What's the best way to spend the rent money?

Sat Jan 06, 2007 12:20 am

Ok, so I've been brewing off and on for a bit and as of late getting more serious and dedicated (or addicted) to making my own beer. I've done some mini-mashes that have turned out well and I would like to step up to all-grain. However, I'd also like to start kegging. I don't have money for either, but can move in one of the two directions in the next couple of months.
Opinions?

do I....

a. Make better beer and learn more in the process

or

b. Just drink more beer more easily.

Having made the jump to AG and not yet kegging I can say that kegging would be the better option. Although AG is fun and all, I wish i didn't have to bottle this stuff.
Keg.

I would say Keg.... here is why....
it is hard to piece together a cheap keg system, you gotta start with a decent investment then you can piece together from there... .whereas with a all grain system you can kinda piece it together as you go, slowly improving the system... you know grainbag and a bucket, to false bottom bucket, to real mash tun.

Like BUB said, you can piece together some cheap shit. Kinda like the cheap shit I have in this pic. The turkey friers were purchased seprately. The cooler was a left-over. A little at a time. Then one day....BOOM!!! you're brewing AG.

Bottling still SUCKS!!!

Kegging is the way to go.

Bottling takes so much time.

I enjoy the brewing and the drinking

The bottling is a pain
Have just got 4 cornys so am looking forward to keg my future batches

KEG!
Once you start kegging it will give you more reason to brew more often. You won't have the thought of bottling day hanging over your head. I love my cornies. Right now I am trying to get them all filled so I have a good excuse to buy a couple more.

Thanks, guys
I was leaning towards kegging anyways. I had just finished bottling a maerzen using starsan instead of bleach for the first time and it was MUCH faster and easier, *almost* to the point of being tolerable. I've got a great fridge lined up, and I think I'll be able to make the jump next month.
