OK Im trying to formulate the recipy for the next 3 brews. After 3 years I will atempt to have the pacints to brew the same recipt three times. P.S. you brewcastin BASTARDS!!!!! Any how, I cant find a discription for Mats Otter in the great Ray's book. What is it? can I subsatute it for 2 row pale? The long and short is I want to make a 5% +/- ABV English stile pale. So if you all have a fail safe ESB / English Pale PLESE forward it....

it is Marris Otter
It is a variety of pale malt that has some other flavor components....
As chicken man would say it's biscuity-er than standard 2 row.

Marris Otter is a floor malted British 2 row pale malt. In most brewing software Marris Otter isn't listed, so just go with the British 2 row data. Same with any recipe calling for British 2 row. Domestic 2 row just isn't the same. Belgian 2 row is a good substitute if you can't get a British 2 row malt.

Maris Otter is not necessarily floor malted, but presumably the best examples are made with that malting technique (at least that is what I've been told).

Maris Otter is a particular variety or cultivar of 2-Row barley grown in Great Britain. Other examples of 2-Row barley cultivars are Golden Promise, Halcyon and Optic (all British); Harrington and Klages (both North American).

I am looking to build a good drinkable beer. I have found that i like the "english " maltyness. I will be ending up with about 30 G of this so Im thinhing a OG of 50 to 55 so it will hold up for deveral months.
The idea as you might have gathered is to brew the same recipy 3 times, as has been sugested on the BN from several brewcasters and guest....
With so many beers out ther I dont think I have ever brewed the same recipy twice....

I heard Mats Otter can be found at the same homebrew supply store as Turro Malt Just kidding. I head a story once of a guy searching high and low for Turro malt and it should have been Two Row malt, this reminded me of that story.
