I may just have a farmer they may want it, might as well trade for some fresh eggs... but I am still going to try some bread recipes...

mine end up composted, though I have found 1) it does stink in the pile, 2) the grubs love it had a grab load of them that dug into my compose and were getting fat on the grain. I would be careful of those types of critters ending up in my garden(more than there are anyway)

I usually end up with a couple full buckets of spent grain. One bucket always goes to the barn for the horse and chickens that night. The other bucket goes into the compost. My wife made horse cookies with it a couple times and gave most of them away to Horse friends. (Those things are expensive and we could all have a little side business making those things)

We would make the horse treats more often but it's always an issue storing the grain until we can make the treats. We usually freeze the grain in the deep freeze which I never have enough space in.

The basic horse treat is a mix of Spent grain, flax, Black sunflower seeds and a little flour with sugar and molasses. The mix gets baked in the oven like a cookie. Horses love sugar so these are always a hit.

My neighbor who has a really nice garden practically begs for spent grain on her compost. Apparently it does something special. I usually dump it in my own compost just because it seems to help break things down faster than with out it.

I'm spreading mine over a "large" area about 16'x3'. A 12 gallon batch ends up around 1/4 - 1/2" thick. It dries out pretty fast so there isn't a problem with stinkum.

I feed spent malt to my chickens as well - they love it. Last year I gave some to our sheep and one of them almost died from bloat. My wife was not too pleased with me. Thank goodness the sheep recovered.

The chickens will be eating like kings... lol

I sometimes put them in the trunk of my friend's car. Its a nice treat for him on a nice warm sunny day.

I compost it...but I may see if the lady up the raod I get my eggs from would like to trade some eggs for chicken feed
