Stir bar stupidity

Anyone besides me do this... Making a 2 liter starter in an erlynmeyer flask and near the end of my boil when I decide I should drop in my stir bar to sterilize it... and BOOM... huge, instant boiler over and the stove is a mess.

Just glad my wife wasnt around to see that...

Anyone else discover this unforseen consequence... or is it just me being Justin..

My only problem with stirbars is that I keep dumping the damned things into the fermenter when I pitch the yeast. Yes, I do know all the tricks for avoiding that but I always seem to space it off at the last minute. For that reason I always have 3 or 4 around. Don't know exactly how many, some are in fermenters.

Yeah, I got bad luck when it comes to stir bars. On the last batch, I forgot to put the stir bar in before the boil, so I threw the stir bar in during the boil. I'm still cleaning that crap off of the range. However, my biggest problem is that I usually dump the stir bar in with the starter. Like I did this time, again.

Justin, if you are keeping count, that's 8 stir bars so far.

I thought I had lost a stir bar and then a month ago, I found it in a corny after about two years. I must have added a starter to that corny to work the FG down. It was a Barley Wine.

Maybe fashion a knitted lanyard and lash them to the side of the Erlenmeyer? :D
