You guys a confusing me with all this higher math. I simply use hex or binary. For Jamils canning jar method the amounts are:

03200 water - 0050 dme
or
1100100000 water - 1010000 dme

These numbers fit my world.

Math? You don't need no stinking math! All I do is throw in a handful of DME into a small potful (well, half full) of water and boil till foam dies down, then chill till skin temp and pitch! Of course, YMMV, but all kidding aside, whatever works for you will be best. Both Jamil and Speyedr are right about the relative amounts of water and DME to use for starters, but then all that counts (no pun intended) is that the yeast pitched is an amount to get a quick and vigorous fermentation going that will attenuate and flocculate well within the shortest possible time frame for the given temperature of your wort. Ttyal, and ilbcnu!

Prost!
