The geometry of this mash tun is not conducive to a good fly sparge. The large surface area, shallow bed is ideal for batch sparge. Fly works much better going down a narrower column of grist, giving a better rinse of the grains and reducing the chance of channeling.

i have the same cooler and had the same problem, always in the 60's even batch sparging. Switch to the stainless steel sleeve that you get off of some plumbing hoses. I use the braiding i got off the hot water tank hose and connected it to the ball valve using a SS worm clamp. Fold and hammer the other end of the braided hose to seal it. I now strictly batch sparge and run between 70-72%.

For fly sparging, make sure you have at least 4" thickness of grain (minimum) and collect runoff for 60 min.

I have a 52 qt Coleman Xtreme mash tun. It works really well with a SS braid at the bottom for batch sparging... Try switching your manifold for a braid and see if that helps.
