Northern Brewer Aeration System

Tue Dec 24, 2013 11:38 am

I just bought an aeration system from Northern Brewer, how much o2 should I put in my wort? Would this depend on beer style, pitching rate, yeast strain, ect.... Please help.

Thanks in Advance,
Chugly

Welcome-
90 seconds of O2 is what I go with. Don't overdo the pressure. if its bubbling up out onto the top, you have the valve too open and its simply wasting oxygen. A low flow is plenty.

Good aeration is one of the keys to yeast growth and health and this addition will make a noticeably positive difference in your finished product. (At least it did for me)

Good luck!

I guess I have been making the mistake of too high a flow rate. Will shoot for 90 seconds at a lower flow rate.

Is this an aeration system with pure O2 tanks or the one with the aquarium pump and filter?

If it's the aquarium pump one, you may want to run it longer. I can't remember what I've done in the past since I've been using the pure O2 system for a while.

Sorry should have said aquarium pump w/filter and stone, that is what I bought from Northern Brewer.

Thanks again,

I have the same set up, and use it for 20 minutes.
Alcohol for me is not a problem, its a solution. And I need to solve about twelve problems tonight.

Yes, huge difference. I've never used an aquarium pump. 20-30 minutes seems to be the norm from everything I've heard.

Since it's hard to control the flow of these things, just keep an eye on it. I had one at one point and it would foam up after running for some time. It had been said that once those head-forming proteins have been used, they are gone forever.
