I am wanting to start brewing small one gallon batches. I am looking for good small food grade containers (1.5 to 2 gallon). I found the container below. My question is, would a skinny or unsymmetrical container affect fermentation. I figured that I could prop the container at an angle so that it has a "faux" conical effect with the spout pointing downward at a slight angle. Am I making any sense.

Land-

I don't know that it would have an effect on fermentation, but you may want to keep a few things in mind....keep it in a dark area, make sure it is food grade plastic and it could be a PIA to clean.

Good Luck!

A small vessel like that the shape isnt going to have much effect on the final beer. It should work fine, as mentioned earlier though it might be a pain in the ass to clean and rack the beer off.

For small feremenatations. I just get the 1 gallon glass jugs. They hold a Bung and an Airlock I use these mostly for meads, Cider's, and Cyzers when I want to add fruit to them for the first time. That way I don't waste a bunch if it does not taste good.

Check with some local bakeries they usally get frosting in small food grade plastic buckets. If you find the right one they might give you one with a lid if not I bet they wouldn't charge you more that 5 bucks for one.

You can also buy the food grade square buckets online. Google for food grade square bucket and you should get lots of hits. There's a line called EZ Stor that comes with capacity up to 6.5 gal.

+2 on the one gallon glass jugs. I have a couple that I use for test batches. You can get them for about 6 bucks at a homebrew shop.
