What are your favorite English yeast strains and what styles do you like them in? I'm getting ready to brew a 19th c. throwback English IPA and am looking for a new yeast strain. The only English strain I've done IPA with has been WLP007, which is good but I want something a little fruitier this time that still attenuates well and also flocculates well. Burton Ale seemed like a good choice. Any suggestions?

I think the Dry English 007 from white labs is a great yeast. Ferment it cool around 65 and it throws very little esters, ferment it hotter around 70-72 and you get nice tropical fruit esters coming through.

I also like the 002 which is a bit more of the english character and flocks hard so you get a super clear beer. 005 is rather clean as well but doesn't flock as well. but any of those do a great job

White labs Yorkshire square is fantastic. I just wish it was more available. Among the regularly available yeast I like 007. Keep it cool and it's clean yet still fruity.

I've used Wyeast London Ale lll... Very flocculant and some stone fruit flavor...

Agreed, very nice yeast when you want some attenuation and some English yeast character. I've used it on a Brown and an American Amber ale with really nice results. Both fermented around 64-66 degrees. Give it time to develop in the bottle or the keg and it comes out really nice.

Thats towards the WLP 007 yeast strain.

After saying that I do not enjoy the WLP 002 in American Pale Ales or IPAs. I feel it mutes the hops added to the beers. It doesn't make a bad beer, but makes a different beer altogether. Not what I want in American style beers. Just my experiences to share among the masses.

007 is one of my favorite yeasts period.

By far my favorite! I haven't used white labs version, just Wyeast's-

Then again, when not in stock, i stick with the 007 as my workhorse.
