You don't need a secondary *unless* you are going to dry hop. Dry hopping on the yeast cake in the primary is a waste of hops. The yeast cake will absorb all or at least almost all of your hop flavor and aroma.

Really! Because I know lots of guys here do it that way including Jamil,Tasty, and countless others and that has never been an issue.

I can't recall the CYBI episode, but I thought I heard Tasty say that if you dry hop on the yeast cake, you may as well throw away the hops because the yeast cake will absorb it. Of course I think those guys are also using conicals and can just dump the yeast out the bottom and then add a dry hop.

I always dry hop in the secondary with great results. In fact just got my DIPA into the final round of the NHC using this method and that one had 10 oz of dry hops in a 5 gallon batch. YMMV.

I've heard several episodes where they have said you may as well throw away the yeast, not the hops.
You will still get your desired dry hop results, but the yeast will collect some of the dry hop flavor and aroma. That would make the yeast only usable in the same style of beer where that flavor/aroma is desired unless thoroughly washed.
I'm sick of chasing my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're going and hook up with them later.

+1. I do not reuse the yeast from a highly hopped beer (at least one with a lot of dry hops) or a beer with an OG over 1.060. Just a personal mantra I have always followed. Gotta keep our yeast healthy and happy!
