I just picked up a food hydrator on sale from Target. Does anyone have any recipes they like for making jerky? The recipe that came in the box sounds boring.

I usually use a dehydrator... makes the jerky more jerky like.
I made it once... i think it was a mix of soy, worchestershire, onion powder, and garlic... was really good but I have no Idea where I found the recipe.
Gotta love Ronco.

I have a brother-in-law from Alaska (he's half Inuit) who makes great jerky. I don't remember much of the recipe other than he starts with a whole moose. I don't suppose that's much help is it?

add black pepper to the mix...and beer when you soak the jerky before you start drying it

and make sure you cut all the fat off the meat before you try to dry it. Make sure you get ALL of it, not most of it.

Oh yes, go to Alaska and kill a moose......

Put some powdered milk, instant potatoes, & raisins in there overnight boy oh boy you'll have a tasty meal in the morning. Yeah, I know, I'm a smartass. You can blame it on those podcaster guys for getting me all riled up.

the last batch I made I used this recipe: Beef Jerky
It was really good too, highly recommended. And by the way, this recipe also has the supplies and steps to make your own dehydrator.

Seriously though why not just use your oven on low? Anyway, I make jerky 4-5 times a year and freeze it until I want to eat some. I usually go with Kikoman teriyaki marinade for 24 hours then spinkle on some red pepper flakes or black pepper depending on how spicy I feel at the time. You may want to add some liquid smoke to your marinade if you want that authentic smokey flavor.
