Hi, I've just about finished listening to all the archives. Great stuff. I've picked up some excellent ideas. I'm at work during the show so I can't listen live or participate in the chat.

I haven't brewed for a while for a few reasons, mainly my partner got transferred and it became a chore. I will be starting again after the new year, mini-mash. No place to set up for all-grain. A few more years and I'll be back in the States with nothing to do but make beer.

Japan is a desert as far as craft brewing goes. There are quite a few small breweries now, but all I've tried are crap. Watery, tasteless and EXPENSIVE!! I will say that the Japanese mega-brews beat American by mile.

The latest thing here is an imitation beer, made to escape the outrageous taxes. It's cheaper than beer and it is terrible.

I'm glad to see that the BN is taking steps to make sure it doesn't die. Justin is right, it will take a lot of work to keep it alive.

Keep up the excellent work.

Welcome to the forum Ed. I think your the first guy I've seen on here from Japan. How do you get your homebrew supplies? Do you have to have them shipped from the states? Anyway enjoy.

Hi Ed,

I thought there were some laws over there regarding Home Brewing and the lack of it?

By the way, how is Sasebo, was there in late 80's (am I really the old?)

Hi Dogger,

I seem to be have a problem getting these replies to post. Anyway, You would not recognize Sasebo. The city has changed a lot and so has the base. There are some laws about homebrewing here. I've heard that there are some LHBS but I haven't seen one. As I understand it, once you brew the beer you have to dilute it twenty to one with water to be legal. I'm sure everyone complies with that. I have not met a homebrewer other than a few Americans. I live on base and I haven't heard anything that makes me think I'm doing anything illegal. Having been in the Navy, I've alway followed this rule: If you don't think you'll like the answer, don't ask the question.

Were you stationed here or just visiting?

Ed

Hi Travis,

I get all my supplies form the States. Postage is murder, but I see that B3 will now pay my postage. I'm looking forward to that.
