Right now its just a IBA kit that my wife bought me. I figured it was a place to start. I going to be investing into better equipment and better ingredients.

Welcome to the addiction. My advice is learn sanitization vs cleaning (and which chemicals do each one), pitch the proper amount of healthy yeast and control your fementation temperatures. Also, Google "How to Brew," by John Palmer and "Brewing Classic Styles," by Jamil Zainasheff.

Aerate well and give the yeast all the time they need to complete the job.
Remember that they work on their schedule, not yours.
Also remember that they need plenty of oxygen to get started, and that they continue to work on their byproducts even after the visually apparent fermentation has ceased.

Welcome!

Good tips form these guys. Most importantly, enjoy yourself and learn from your mistakes. That and start another right after the first one is done!
