A Hanukkah Present - Hoping for New Hobby!

Hello All!

Last night I received a Mr. Beer homebrew kit for Hanukkah and I am extremely, extremely excited to start brewing. I plan on starting the process tonight when I get home from work. I bought myself some bottles from the website as my kit didn't come with it, but I will be using the "Classic American Light" recipe that came with the kit.

So far I have read the instructions that come with the kit as well as some threads around here this morning before I even thought about starting. I think I have a good understanding of what needs to be done. The beer has been fermenting for almost a week already so going to test it in another week to see if its ready for bottling!

It seems the three biggest factors in brewing are sanitizing, timing & patience (hopefully the last one I can help myself with).

Thanks again and I look forward to reading some great stuff around these parts!

Sanitizing, timing, and patience.
You, sir, have a great understanding of the world of brewing. Stick to that mantra, and you will go far, young grasshopper.
You must also adhere to :nutters: , as well.

Yes, many beginners fail in at least one of those... and more experienced brewers too...

Welcome! You're on your way down the slippery slope. Let that Mr. Beer kit down easy. I think this is the first & last time he'll be under your employment because I'm already envisioning you at the LHBS picking up your new 5 Gal buckets/carboys for the second brew day. :jnj

I don't know anyone that has done more than 7 batches on the Mr. Beer Kit system... they seem to either drop out or step up before then.

I did about 30 in mine, but many of those were stepped up - steeping, mini-mashes, non-hopped lme, etc.

Welcome, Stigy. You have been exposed to what is undboubtedly the crack cocaine equivalent in homebrewing.
My wife is STILL pissed at her sister (who gave me my Mr. Beer kit exactly 10 years ago next week for Christmas) for creating a monster.
