Howdy! from Albany, NY

Mon Jan 23, 2012 6:56 pm

Just wanted to say, howdy! I am Jamie from Albany, New York - I listen when I can. I am interested in finding a homebrew club in the Upstate NY region that meets regularly and talks about brewing. I am looking to be an active member and I want to hear about techniques in brewing not ramblings of drunkenness - well maybe after a few meetings. I am looking forward to chatting with people as energetic about brewing as I am. Cheers!

Welcome to the insanity, central-NY! No, I do not consider Albany upstate, look at a map, its in the center... Anywho, a quick google search led me here: http://www.beerinfo.com/index.php/pages ... lubNY.html

Looks like they got a couple in the 518 area... I know that there is a group that puts on an annual homebrew comp up at the brewpub there (the name escapes me...)

I pass through all the time, when I go home, REAL upstate (think plattsburg, potsdam area...) Hit me up, maybe I can stop through for a drink or two!

Ahh, The debate continues. IMHO, Upstate NY does not start until Binghamton. But then again, anything north of any given location in NY could be considered "upstate". The five boroughs and LI don't count.

But welcome HutmanVeGates! I would've posted DarkSides link as well.

It's all relative, my cousins from L.I and Brooklyn think we're woodchucks in Poughkeepsie. I think Albany is upstate, Binghamton is southern tier, not upstate.

As for clubs, look up the Saratoga Thoroughbrews, they've been around quite a while.

Yeah...my post was slightly in jest. When I lived in White Plains several years ago, once you hit Valhalla it all seemed like Upstate NY
