I was on this site a long time ago, and have come back. If it was not for the archives I may have been in trouble. As a matter of fact, I was here for the first two broadcasts but then couldn't listen Sunday Nights, I am so glad I could catch up. I drive a lot for work so I just download the archives to my MP3 player and listen the whole drive. As I type this I am downloading all of Jamil's shows to my MP3, after that I should be all caught up, excpet the lunch meat segments. Anyway, I have been brewing since 2003. I started out extract, then moved to extract with grains, mini-mash and have moved into All Grain so I have tried the whole spectrum. I am a member of the Manty Malters, our local homebrew club. Also as of August 21st I am a BJCP recognized judge, soon to be Certified as soon as I get enough judging points. Anyway, I hope to frequent this forum more often and hope to learn more and more. This show is a great tool. Who knows, maybe I can help someone along the way as well. Mainly I post on Brewboard, but I have been lurking around here as well and it looks like I would enjoy hanging with you folks as well.

Welcome back, Jason. We love to get your input as well. I would like to get your take on the BJCP judge show once you get through the archives.

I need to start wearing my glasses when I read the forums. I could have sworn that your username was BARLEYPOOPMAKER. I had to open the thread just too check it out.

Sorry, I hope I didn't offend you. Anyway, welcome to the forums.

Hey, sometimes after too many homebrews I am Barleypoopmaker

so no offense taken.
I did listen to the BJCP show and enjoyed it a lot. As a matter of fact I am going to suggest it to some club members who are on the fence on if they want to go that route or not. I thought Kevin Pratt did a great job explaining what goes on behind the scenes while judging and I even got a great tip off that show, the whole arm sniffing thing I never knew about. However, going through the course and exam, I knew most of what he was talking about with the BJCP, but it was pretty informative for someone who maybe wants to know if they want to put the time and effort into becoming a judge. One thing I enjoy about all the shows when you talk about competitions and judging is that the judges are only human and not machines. So the palate or nose could be slightly different in what the judge perceived as to what you may perceive at home or what not. I have been lucky enough not to yet fall under the wrath of an angry homebrewer who didn't get the BOS award he thought he had all wrapped up, but I like that you explain about the off days or mistakes can happen. But from what I have heard is some contestants can get pretty nasty if you perceive something they don't think is in there.
