Hey Guys,

I just finished listening to the latest show with Ray Daniels. Great show as usual.

Anyway, I was so surprised when Justin said he never read the book. For me, Designing Great Beers is one of the most influencial books for me in becoming a GOOD home-brewer. It really allowed me to understand how to perfect my brewing process. I now know how to estimate the amount of water I need for my brew, how to hit my target gravity EVERY TIME, understand gravity units and how my boil process affects it, calculating bittering units no matter when I add my hops to the boil, and so much more! Justin - You need to read this book and believe me it will help you. All the questions you were asking of Jamil and Doc are in this book. I know it is 10 years old, but still worth every cent.

BUY (AND READ) THE BOOK!

PS: BU:GU is only 1 little gem you will get out of it and honestly, it's only 3rd grade math.

Peace out and keep up the good fight.

I read it *too* early in my brewing career and was overwhelmed. Tossed it aside.

Never picked it up since; however last weeks show might have inspired a re-read.

Now that I think about it, I did the same thing. I bought it very early when I first started brewing and also just tossed it aside. Once I started to understand the brewing process more, it was awesome. Certainly not the first book you read, but it will help you more to the next level.

With all that said, I think I am jsut now at the level to read the book and be helped by it. Doc left me his copy, so it will be read as soon as possible.

Thanks guys,

Justin

Yeah Justin -- get Daniella to buy you a copy if your broke ass can't buy one by yourself!

P.S. And DON'T just borrow Doc's copy -- buy your own!!!!!

I have to agree. I have only brewed 4 batches and am currently half way through the book and can't believe all the great info in it. Ray gives the formula's for everything so it ends up being just plugging numbers into a calculator really. I can't wait to apply the things I learned to my next batch.
