A brief timeline (yes, I know a lot of you are too lazy to look it up or remember the details ):
- December 18, 1917 - US Senate proposes the 18th Amendment
January 16, 1919 - Approved by 36 states, the 18th Amendment was ratified
October 28, 1919 - The US Congress passes the Volstead Act, over President Woodrow Wilson's veto
January 17, 1920 - The United States goes dry
1920-1933 - All hell breaks loose
December 5, 1933 - Ratification of the 21st Amendment under President FDR by 36 states.
Unfortunately I won't be able to brew my annual Flanders Red this year, but I'll be pulling some bottles out of the cellar in celebration. Anyone have any Repealiation Day plans, other than joining me in a toast to better judgement?
