I haven't brewed in about ten months. During that time, I have had to buy all my beer. Going from drinking home brew out of the kegerator to buying all my craft beer was EXPENSIVE!!! I brewed 2 weekends ago and I am brewing again right now. Let's hope that I never have to buy all of my beer again. I'd say that my homebrew is approx. 50% less then Craft beer, and I still think it tastes a lot better. Anyone else save a crap load of money by brewing?

No, I have found that I buy more craft beer. Most of the beer I drink is homebrew but I always come out of the store with a bomber of something I haven't had before. I also have a lot of really good craft breweries around where I will make the drive just to get a growler fill. So between that and buying new brewing toys I would say I'm NOT saving any money on homebrewing. But I would still never give it up just because of that reason.

I have always heard it said that brewing your own beer to save money was like buying a boat to save on the cost of seafood. Having said that, I still harken to the voice in my head that reminds me that I am brewing great beer at a fraction of the cost of buying craft beer and that helps me to justify the time spent and even the costs of upgrading equiptment. I still like to keep a few bombers in the fridge of great craft beer even though it's not cheap. I find it inspires me to new heights in my homebrewing odyssey. :drink
