Hi all, first time post but long time listner etc...

My wife is heading to New York City for a week, leaving me at home in Australia with the kids so I'm trying to convince her to bring me back a couple of bottles of great US craft beer (too much to choose from, I know).

But for this to happen, I'll need to make it as easy as possible: ie tell her a good place to go where she can buy something good quickly and easily. (and not have some idiot shop owner sell her Bud light or something).

She'll be staying in E 1st Street, (near Bowery and E Houston street? I've got no idea of the scale of the place) so somewhere near there would be greet.

A bottle of Pliney would be awesome, and maybe something from Dog Fish Head - Is Union Jack available in NY?

Any other recommendations?

Good Beer 422 East 9th Street, New York, NY. Their website will lead you to their facebook page....it's a great spot in the city!

The Whole Foods Bowery location has a beer room with knowledgeable employees, an excellent selection and good prices. It's located very close to where your wife is staying - on Houston between Bowery & Chrystie. Russian River does not distribute here but we do get DFH & Double Jack plus a lot of other good stuff. Good Beer is excellent but it's a little farther away from where she is staying than WF. She'll find good service & selection at either place, though.

I'd seen both on google but feel much more confident having some recommendations via the BN. Can't wait to see what she brings back

New Beer on 167 Christie (right by) is an excellent store, comparable or better than Whole Foods. Certainly a different selection, and not too far away if you want to check out both.

Thanks again everyone, she ended up going to Whole Foods Bowery, which was around the corner as mylifeoncraft said. She said everything was really well presented, looked like it was being kept well and the staff member was very helpful. I think he even let her split a couple of four-packs which they wouldn't normally do.

I was only expecting two or three bottles!

Extra stoked about the West Coast IPA, I didn't think that'd be available on the East Coast - now I can compare it to my attempt at the CYBI clone and see how close I'm getting!

Now the hard thing is going to be deciding what to share, and which of my brewing buddies I share with.

The amazing thing was how cheap it was - less than $US40 including a couple of bottles she left behind with her sister. If we were to source these beers from an importer in Australia I think it would be easily double that.
