Extract with grains

Sun Nov 27, 2016 1:20 pm

I went to crank out a simple extract batch about 45 mins ago.
Got everything set up. Went to pour the steeping grains into my grain sack.
Instead, they all went onto the fucking driveway. In the rain.

I turned off the gas and went inside instead.

Fuck this.

Shit! Sorry Steve.

That sucks. Brewing can be frustrating. I have not had the chance to brew as frequently as I would like (busy life going on) and sometimes when I don't brew often I find myself screwing up during the brewday. I lose that "second" nature thing or something...

Hey, at least you only lost the grains and not the extract!

Yeah. I went inside and started to watch the Seahawks game. They played like shit too.
I was in such a bad mood that my wife got up and left.
I get a phone call from her phone. It's Mrs. BDawg at the LHBS asking me what I need to replace! She handed the phone to the guy and I told him what I needed, this time with a bigger grain sack and an extra lb of dme, just to bump the gravity a bit.
So, I turned the burners back on, got my water heated up, added my extract, and just before hitting hot break, I fucking ran out of propane.

So, I ran to the store and swapped the propane tanks out.
But, now I have 5 gallons of IPA bubbling and the world is good again.
I should probably go put a blowoff tube on the fermenter. Something tells me I'm stupid if I don't.

This is actually a pretty darn good beer story, man. You have one helluva wife for her to go get those ingredients for you. Guess she just didn't want to sit next to an old curmudgeon anymore, huh?

Glad to hear you got that IPA rolling though. Always feels good to have a batch in the fermenter.

Cheers man!
