Partial / Mini Mash DMS question

Mon Oct 11, 2010 7:21 pm

I was asked today if you have to do a 90 minute boil in mini mash beers that use pilsner malt. I know in all-grain you have to drive off DMS, I know in extract, it's not really a worry, but is 60 minutes enough to drive off DMS in a mini mash recipe? I'm inclined to believe yes (about 1/3 the total SMM you'd get from an all-grain beer), but I wanted to know if any of you have any experience with this.

I wouldn't worry about it. You are talking what, 2 lbs or so of Pilsner malt?
Shouldn't be a problem, IMO.
